Depends on the breed. If you want a good broody standard breed I would go with Cochins. Either Bantam or Standard.

X2 on holm25; among the standard breeds Cochins are probably generally the best brooders and mothers. Probably the best brooders and mothers of all are Silkies (which are bantams). Silkies will sometimes spends weeks trying to inbubate a golf ball. Game hens are also excellent brooders and mothers but they are more aggressive than Silkies and Cochins.
