if I wanted a broody chicken but didn't want it different like a silkie. I have been told birds that look different get bullied a lot ( I keep hybrids/sex link )

My understanding is you want a broody that won't get picked on like a Silkie most likely would? I see you're in England so it should be easy for you to find Pekins, there's a really good breeder in Rotherham by the name of Scott. I've found they do best in groups of three or more when with other chickens. They're small and mine have always brooded together. You can fit 6-10 eggs under them depending on size. I do prefer Pekins to Silkies as they do seem just a tad hardier and stick up for themselves more.

Dorkings, Pekins, Orpingtons, Faverolles, and Sussex are all good broody alternatives to Silkies.

Ask the breeders you're interested in getting stock from. Traits of birds can vary to each person's line. I keep Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks here in the states and they will attempt to brood 3 and 4 times from spring to late fall. Crazy broody. They too are available in England, usually bantam though. Couldn't say how broody English lines are.
