Okay chicken experts....I have a Gray Star/Sapphire hen. I believe she is starting to be broody...she won't leave 1 certain nest except to eat. I have had to remove her and place her on the roost the last couple nights. She's also making some weird noises... Is that what it is?

I don't have a rooster anymore as we had to part ways so she's just sitting on fake eggs. Should I get some fertile eggs and put under her or keep fighting her? TIA

If you want her to set, you can move her to a broody nest on fake eggs until she locks on and then give her fertile eggs to hatch.

If you do not want her to hatch, then you can put her in a broody breaker and break her broodiness. Just removing her and placing her on the roost and walking away isn't going to break her.

A broody breaker is a wire dog crate that is elevated off the ground with a piece of wood in it for her to sit on and food and water. She stays in that crate at least three days and then you can release her at the end of the third day to see if she roosts. If she does not, lock her back up in the crate until the following night. Keep going until she roosts on her own.
