Broody hen- a hen that is setting on her nest, hoping to hatch chicks.
Brooder- a box or container in which chicks with no mama are kept warm and allowed to grow.

For birds, brood means different things. To sit on and hatch eggs. To mother and protect their young. The group of young being raised by the mother.
