Broody

Mrsodell,
How exciting, Congrats on your 1st broody! Ive allowed my broodies to set both ways. What has worked best for me is too move her (at night) to a secured private area. That way is much less stressful for the hen, chicks, and me :o) I have an area (5x8) of my pen sectioned off with welded wire and rabbit wire to keep the chicks secured. Inside there is a small igloo dog house with wood shavings. Right now in the sanctuary, I have a dutch bantam with 6 chicks that hatched Friday. I also have a cornish hen with 3 chicks that are almost 2 weeks old- her chicks are unknowns, as the eggs could have been laid by Eenie, Meenie , Miney or Mo, and their Rooster Daddy could be Curly, Larry, or Moe :o)

Good Luck!

both my leg horns went broody again second time in 3 months first time I brook them of it but with it winter time I am letting them sit on fake egg but watching them I could never depend on them to hatch eggs as every morning they come out for about hour or so and then the rest of the day there out off and on.
