Hi
I have a 2 year old light brahma. She's been sitting in the nest box for about 5 days, feathers puffed out. I take her out all day long, and she just runs right back in. First she drinks, then eats and back to her nesting box.. Sigh. She seems fine otherwise. Is she broody? And how do I snap her out of it

Sounds as if she is broody. In order to 'break' her broodiness, you must pen her away from her nest site. Some use a suspended wire cage, but exclusion from the nest site, in my experience, is the essential factor. It will take a while, and she will be upset.

Thank you. Does it last long? I'm worried about the hot weather coming our way. Thanks for your help

I agree... I had a broody silkie. All I did was about every hour I would pick her up out of the nest and place her with the others in the run. After about a week of coming back to no eggs...she got the hint. But I do think some sort of wire cage would work great.
