    BarredRocks3 Out Of The Brooder

I have a barred rock hen that's about 8 months old. A few weeks ago I notice she was dropping out a poops the size of small dogs. Every now and then sit on the eggs and won't lay, and when I go inside the coop while she's doing this she puffs up the feathers on her lower back. Would this mean she's going broody or what?

If you see her on the nest all the time and she's puffing up then she's broody but if she's not always on the eggs or if she sits on them for a little once a day or something then she's not broody she's just laying an egg but the way you put it it's sounds like she is make sure the eggs are fertile and she's gonna get real skinny from not leaving the nest as much but yeah lol

Is she on the nest at night? Sure sounds like she's broody, or at least contemplating it.
