broody's left nest ...10/30 last egg just hatched!

Citychickers, I am a total newbie at hatching eggs in an incubator. We are in the middle of our first hatching of duck eggs even as I type! These are our "learning the rope" eggs.

We are in NM and there isn't a lot of humidity here either. What my husband did was put wet wash cloths in the incubator along the areas where there aren't any eggs to raise the humidity.

Good luck!

Well, we are hearing lots of baby chirps out of the next egg and lots of tapping going on. We are of course excited about that, a bit apprehensive but hopeful.

The added moisture in the bator seems to be making a difference as well. The windows in the bator have drops of wetness on them and have had all day.

Here's to a better day tomorrow!!!

I'll be thinking of you and praying. I need to go to a training and work. I won't be home until tomorrow after 4pm. I will be checking with you and hope it's good news. But it sounds like your doing your best. I can't wait to get back home.

It's definitely a better morning (isn't it always?)

The egg that started talking to us last night and her next door neighbor sister in the bator are talking to each other and trying to pip!

We are praying for a hatched pair to keep each other company today. Thanks for all your sweet prayers and well wishes!

Not sure what to do. It's now Saturday night and last night all five eggs were chirping at each other. Today and tonight nothing.... Should I be worried?

Should I be candling??

Has anybody ever "pipped" the eggs for their own chicks? I know that sounds ridiculous but I'm actually considering it.

I could use some encouragement for sure.....

Everyone will say no. I would give it a little longer. Don't candle because they need to stay in the same place to get ready for hatching. They are probably doing that now. Tomorrow morning you will have little pips:)

Make sure your humidity is up and you should be fine.

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it. This is so discouraging. I hope and pray that we haven't messed up this hatch. We were so excited last night to hear all of them making so much noise. Today it's been so quiet.

We'll see what tomorrow brings. Thanks again for your encouragement.

swtangel, the eggs are all on different days because of the way the hens went broody. We have eggs that were layed on

10/2
10/3
10/4
10/5
10/8

We put them underneath our broodys as soon as they were laid. I marked the dates on them before we did that so we could track them. I now know that this WASN'T the right way to do this, but I figured since I had 2 broody hens it wouldn't matter. They were both sharing the responsibility.....until the day they both decided to leave the nest.

So, a very stagged hatch....except nothings hatching.
