I have questions on what chickens are good broody hens. I have a Silkie and i heard that they go broody allot. I have also heard that after the chicks are born the mamma will stay on the nest and if the chick leaves than the mamma will not follow. Therefor you are suppose to pull the chicks after they hatch. so what breeds are good broodys?

OEGBs are good, and Silkies are good as well, and that is not true, I leave my broody hatched chicks with the mama every time, and they are fine. The mama will stay on the nest the first day, but the next, should be right off with her babies

I happen to like cochins for broodiness. Excellent mothers and rather sweet. And even if you get the bantam size, I can still fit seven standard eggs under my Sylvie.
I'd love a Buff Orpington, and I've heard they're good mothers, but I have no personal experience.

I've used Old English Game bantams as broodies and they have been absolutely wonderful. They are tiny though so you won't get too many eggs under them.

One of our Booted bantams was an amazing mother too. We bought her and two chicks from a breeder. The Booted bantam adopted the chicks as her own, and she also got some newly hatched Silkie chicks when she was a bit older after she was still broody after 10 weeks of sitting! We had her separated from the others inside so she got all the treats and was still in great condition. She's our friendliest hen despite growing up free range before coming to live with us.
