Thanks all!
We're building a larger wood and wire pen for them to move to when they're bigger and have some feathers. Figured I'd keep them in a large rubbermaid tub while they're tiny to hold as much heat in as I can. They're in the medium size now and I've got a big one that's got the wheels on it to move them to next. Headed to the store now so I'll buy them some pine bedding. Thanks for mentioning that!!! I love that smell but I guess if I was packed into a heated box full of it I can see where it would be highly irritating! Can't believe I didn't think of that. Ugh! Hubby will be thrilled though because he's probably the only human on the planet that doesn't like that smell!
They've got the gallon waterer. Figured they'd need a bigger one when they get bigger so I just went ahead and grabbed it now. Also got a 'feeder' but it's so deep that they'd have to put their entire head in there to access the food and I didn't want them getting their head stuck so I removed the top part and just use the tray. They keep sitting in there and going potty though so we're wasting a lot of food. Can I switch to a smaller bowl? I have a LOT of small metal dog dishes and can use that. Would it work? Is the metal ok? It doesn't seem to be so hot in there that it would make it too warm where it would hurt them.
They all made it through night number one by the way. Typical neurotic mom I was up every couple hours running over to check on them. The peeping was actually very soothing we found. We were watching TV and hubby even said to me that it's a peaceful noise and he likes them being in our bedroom, other than the smell from the bedding. Will fix that today! Oh, do they fight at this age? Everyone now and then there's a lot of fluttering and loud chirping that sounds like they're fighting. *scratches head* What the heck could baby chicks possibly get all worked up over?
