Brower Brooder

Hey!
Has anyone used the Brower Brooder with heat? If so, did it make it easier to raise the quails? I am reading that you can keep quails in it until they are 4 weeks of age. I need something small for my quail and I am not talented at doing carpenter work at all so thats not an option for me. I was looking at some Ware hutches but figured that I need two of them and the cost will be around 500 dollars for them and I was just wondering would it be wiser for me to just invest in purchasing a Brower brooder. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

p.s. I have 250 quail chicks coming first week of April and i have never raised quails before. They are being raised for eggs and meat. Thanks again so much for any and all inputs!!

I have used GQF brooder, but not Brower..... You will need a smaller kind of hardwire wire than comes with the GQF for your brooder. I imagine that all brooders use about the same size base wire... So, I would suggest ordering some of that so their legs do not go between the wire. That was one thing I learned about our GQF brooder right away. You may also want to make sure that any openings to the outside are not too big to allow an escape. I found that the brooder had to have waters and feeders in side because when I opened for the feed and water outside, the whole bird was going out. Hope this helps you some...And for those waterers you'll need the small quail size and also marbles, these little birds are so tiny.... I hope others add more I've only hatched and brooded quail just one time! Nancy

I have a 4 brower brooder stack. Hatch 400 - 500 quail per year for the last 4 years.

They are great after the first week. But there is a design problem and day old, to first week chicks escape. The flooring is covered with a plastic coating. My thought is warps during the process. There is a bottom rail but no top, so the chicks get under the floor grate and escape. Of the 4 I have no escapes in one and about 20% in the worst. It is very aggravating. I returned most chicks to the brooder but if you don't check every hours or so, they get cold and die.

It needs a ] channel or L added. I plan to call them today, and see if they have updated the design. It would not be a problem with larger chicks.

As far as the flooring, I put the GQF coated cardboard down for the first week. It is wider and shorter than what you need for the brower so trim the width and tape a piece on for added length. I also run it out the front 2 inches and tape it so chicks don't get out.

I aslo have 1 GQF brooder. I like it for the first week but prefer the brower's feed and water setup.

If you bought a brower let me know your experience.

I modified 4 brower brooders by adding 3/4" aluminum angle above the floor grate making a track of sorts. No chick escapes.
