I've always liked the look of the large brown goose with the knob on it's beak, but there is two kinds that I can choose from, the Brown Chinese, and the Brown African. Help me decide?
I want to buy a male, and a female goose to keep in a chicken coop with 25 Rhode Island Red Hens, 25 Black "Jersey" Giant Hens, 3 Male Royal Purple Guineafowl, 3 Rhode Island Red Roosters, and 3 Black "Jersey" Giant Roosters. They all free range during the day, and get locked up at night. There will also be Nubian Goats, Boer goats, and a Pygmy on the range.
I want a bird that is more vocal and noisier, to detect predators incase the other 9 bird guards miss it, a bird that will lay the most and largest eggs (do they use 12x12 chicken nesting boxes?), and the largest bird for intimidating small predators.
Thanks.

Chinese is the noisiest and lays the most eggs. African is much much larger than the Chinese.

Geese don't miss much so any goose is going to notice predators. Your predators would have to be smaller than a mink for a goose to intimidate predators, because the mink aren't afraid of them. All a goose does is to make a larger meal. About the only thing that won't kill adult geese are the hawks. All and any mammal predator can kill them. Crows will and do attack them.

They will keep the casual opportunistic human thief out of your coop, unless the thief knows anything about poultry.
