Brown eggs turning white?

I have a flock with 21 pullets. I'm still at the amazed stage everytime I collect eggs. I bring them in and count them and look at the different shades of brown and how sometimes they are kinda weird shaped, huge eggs, tiny eggs ect.. ect..

So.. My dad just came back from Arizona and I couldn't wait to bring him a dozen of these beauties. He was happy to get them.... but he told me when he was in Arizona he had been buying brown eggs but when he hard boiled them the brown washed off and they turned white! Wow! How could that happen?? I have hard boiled our eggs and they always stay brown. Is it possible he's buying eggs that have been painted brown or can it wash off? Weird

In the development of an egg, the color is the last ingredient...yep it can be washed off...

I thought maybe someone was coloring thier eggs to pass them off as brown... shows you what i know.. lmao

i read that the color will rub off of welsummer eggs.

As a Welsummer Breeder I can tell you that SOMETIMES the brown will wash off of a Welsummers eggs especially if it is a new pullet that is just beginning to lay.

If you look at the eggs on my website you will see eggs that the brown normally will NOT wash off of. I say "normally" because ALL brown eggs are "painted" on the outside by the hen as it goes through the laying process. If one where to soak an egg long enough and scrub hard enough ALL brown eggs could be washed clean.

Crack a brown egg open and look at the inside of the shell. You will see that it is white.

Happens to me every once in a while, it is no big deal though.

I've found that as the laying season progresses, that my hens egg colors start to fade. After their winter break their eggs are nicely colored once again!

I have found that with my EE's the green eggs are still blue on inside and with washing the green color can be washed off to expose the blue in them. For those that are skeptical try it and when you crack egg open look at shell inside it should be blue not green its weird.
