Ok I am really new at this... My eggs are due friday, I don't see movement like I have read about. I keep an eye on the temp, and turn my eggs by hand. I was doing this egg batch for the kids to see. I want to know how to check brown eggs for babies since light won't shine past any of my eggs? Please help. I also just lost 2 chickens two days ago to what I will call nature ( they lost a battle againts coyotes), no more free range.

First off, Welcome to BYC.

For candling, I bought and LED Lenser at HomeDepot and it will help you see through almost any egg.

Good luck!

Uh Oh

Stop turning the eggs and leave the incubator closed. Keep humidity high about 65-75%

You stop turning the eggs at day 18 (3 days before they are due to hatch out)

If you have been turning them still, then you need to stop. I believe it will make it more difficult for the chicks to pip out. Plus the incubator needs to have a high enough humdity so that the chicks do not stick to the membranes. And if they do, don't pull the membrane off. They could bleed to death if you do. Some people gently wash off the dried on membrane, but that means you have to open the bator and everyone says to NEVER do that.

Good luck, keep us posted

Thank you all, I will looking for an LED light before my next batch. I had a chick hatch yesterday ( was due wed) and have an egg rocking as I type. My poor husband... I am in love with the baby and getting ready to do more eggs asap!
