For some insight, I own red stars, black stars, true blues, and another breed that I am unsure of the name. They are all 2 months old.
So last week, I noticed one of my red stars being sickly in the back of their house. I climbed inside and picked her up, trying to get her responsive.
As I'm gently rubbing her back and talking to her, she all of a sudden opened her eyes and a brown goop, not blood as it was a transparent brown color, started pouring from her beak and nostrils. She then started having a seizure so I put her down to try to wait it out.
She stopped spasming and then had the goop come from her eyes. It was as if it was a horror movie!
But the thing I noticed when I picked her up was that she had a fever and was malnourished. I had noticed recently the other chicks becoming less active, but i assumed it was from the hot weather. It turned out they all were sick, skinny, and pale so I have been monitoring them since. They had been sniffling as well since I started monitoring them.
Since then, I have lost 6 chicks due to it, all dying the same way. I haven't lost any in a few days and disinfect their pen when their outside. I've been keeping them apart from the older ones in a completely different pen now and put them back at night.
Most are starting to recover now but I have one that's just not improving while the rest have color back in their faces and combs and are gaining weight back. I feed them apple slices, blueberries, peaches, and plums, as well as plain Greek yogurt. This is on the side of the natural wheat feed i give them.
Sorry for such a long thing, I've been needing help knowing what this is. I've studied and researched and nothings coming up. I also need to know what I should do for my one thats not improving, please help!!

My whole flock of 2 month chicks got sick recently. They had fevers, clearly had been neglecting eating, sneezing, lethargic, and were losing feathers. I had six die from a seizure then a mystery brown goop coming from the beak and eyes.
I have gotten about all of them recovered from it, but i have one that isn't getting better. She just sits there while everybody else is starting to run around and be themselves. She is clearly still not eating much and she's still pale. What can I do to help her?
Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry about your chicks.
How old are they?
Where are you located in the world?
You mention you feed a natural wheat feed - can you post a photo of the bag and nutritional tag?
Photos of your birds, housing and their poop may be helpful as well.

Do you provide a source of Grit for your birds?
Are their crops empty in the morning before they eat/drink?

Brown goop coming from the beak, nostrils and even out the eyes - the first thing I think of is crop issue. My best guess on that is the contents of the crop is just too much and coming out of the nostrils and eyes. Chicks may be seizing due to choking. - just a guess.

2 month olds - Coccidiosis also comes to mind as well.

If possible, taking a poop sample to your vet for testing would be a good idea.

Corid can be given to treat Coccidiosis. You can find that in most feed stores. Dosage for Liquid Corid is 2 teaspoons per gallon of water or Powder Corid dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoons per gallon of water. Give for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.

I would sparingly give the fruits/veggies for the time being - make sure they have grit and focus on them eating a nutritionally balance chick starter or all flock feed that has 18-20% protein.

Sorry for my late reply, I've been busy!
My chicks are 2 months old and I am located on the coast of Washington state (not DC).
For my feed, its not purchasable in stores, my grandpa is a farmer and he has wheat fields. He takes the wheat he harvests and grinda it up to powder, adding protein concentrates to it and we put it in barrels. My chicks and my older chickens (which I've raised from chicks as well) have always eaten off the same thing and have had no issues.
Thir crops are about empty every morning, but not ever completely as they constantly have access to food and water.
I would send a sample if I could, but my parents don't want me to. I'm only 15 so I'm unable to do it myself. But for the poop, my chicks which have gotten healthier have normal poops, but i have one last chick that is sick. She doesn't seem to be getting better. Her poops seem to have some solid but mostly water, as she hydrates but eats only some.
Thank you, I will remember to do that! They already get vitamins in their water, so I'll make sure they keep a good diet as well.
I'm unable to get photos as of now but I will try when I can.

Get the photos when you can. Hopefully we can help you figure this out :hugs

For the one that is not doing well. Separate her out at night so you can check her crop to see if it's empty in the morning before she eats/drinks.
If the crop is not emptying, then you need to start treating her.

Coccidiosis may be part of your problem too - hard to know, but in younger birds it can overtake them. Corid (Amprolium) can be found in the cattle section of stores like Tractor Supply. You may want to get some and treat her to see if she improves.

Make sure the feed you are putting out for them is staying fresh, dry and not getting moldy - sometimes in warm, wet weather feed can get moldy or rancid quickly - this can make birds very sick.

For the one sick chick, I already do separate her at night, but I'll check her by tomorrow. Already this morning she didn't have it completely empty, but she had some mushed up feed and vitamin water with her so I'm unsure if she drank or ate.
Am I able to take her inside? I usually keep her out in the garage because I was worried it might be contagious to the other pets since I didn't know if it was contagious.
I'm actually unable to get her the medicine, as my father refuses to believe that she could have it. I'll try my best to get it if needed though.
I'm always careful about feed as well, but here are your pictures as well! They have a seperate pen out from their normal just in case it was contagious to my 2 year old birds:

This is their feed:

Their normal living space, which I disinfect normally and stir the shavings, which still has a lot of their loose feathers:

Here's my last sick chick as well with the others:

And I finally was able to find her poops, its dried, but its always got a puddle of water around it, and it has yellow in it. The lighting makes the colors more vibrant than they are:

I have seen these droppings before. On a chicken that was basically laying eggs without the shell due to lack of calcium. But your chicken is only 2 months.... so unsure why it is laying them. You are sure it is the 2 month old? This could be a sign of lack of calcium in your older chickens.

Ground wheat with added protein powder doesn't sound like enough additives... how many years have you been using it with your older chickens?

You said you "disinfect the shavings the normal way" what does that mean? could they be getting poisioned? I thought because of the discharge it was something viral.... but the seizure doesnt sound like the coughing sneezing I would expect. Did you ever lose any older chickens or only younger?

Yes, its not from my older ones because that's from the newspaper in the cat carrier I keep the chick.

I have been using the same feed since I got my old chickens. I've raised them since chicks as well and have never had an issue.

For disinfecting it, I take a spray bottle of water and only about a tablespoon, if that, of bleach. I spray the walls and door lightly and keep the door open to air it out and dry. I then stir the shavings and take any feed that may have gotten the cleaner on it and put it in a bucket to dispose of.

I have never had an issue like this, I've only lost the small ones. I've been keeping them away from each other just incase though.

Hope you figure it out. Really stumped by a chicken so young pooping what look like egg bits. Hope you figure it out. Not sure where to even start. The chicken I had was around 2 years and came from a pretty bad home before I got her. She pooped like this and did not respond to any vitamins or antibiotics. She ended up passing after 2 months and the vet that told us she had a calcium issues did a neocropsy and found she just had what looked like an issue with her "egg factory" in general. I wonder if she ever laid right, I just didn't know enough about her to know when the problem started.

I hope your girl perks up, if your family are against treatment/medicine of any kind try adding parsely, thyme or oregano to her water. Whatever of those 3 herbs you have growing around. Better than giving her nothing. oregano especially has done wonders to perk up my birds when they are looking down.

I am not against your feed, but I am wondering about it. Wheat harvest is once a year, in a certain month? And then it gets stored, and at some point your grandpa gets some ground to make feed? I expect you've had more than one batch over 2 years. How recently was this batch made? And does your grandpa have chickens he feeds with it, too?

Oh wow, that sounds rough, I'm sorry to hear!

I will try that, thank you ^^
