Brown, green or white?

Sounds good! I have filled out an order from from Meyer, just to get an idea. Here is what I have: 11 brown egg layers, 5 green egg layers, and 3 white egg layers. I have talked to Illa before about Maran and Olive Egger hatching eggs before. So, we will eventually have the variety. Thanks!

I have a variety as well, but I actually think my green eggs are the richest. They have even darker, thicker yolks than my brown eggs. But I love them all, as long as they're mine!

colored eggs! people assosiate the with farmers green or blue do very well to/ They are kind of a novelty. Most people will pay a bit more for something different.

Pardon my ignorance, but what breed lays those beautiful red eggs? I currently have green/pink eggs from 3 Ameraucanas, white from 4 bantams and brown from 4 production hens. I may add a few of those red egg layers to the flock next spring.

Agreed! I was selling my (previously only brown eggs) at $3 a dozen and would occasionally get a gripe about the cost. I added a few EEs, Olive Eggers, Welsummers and Marans into the mix, waahlaa! $4 a dozen and nobody complains!

I have a mix of eggs- tan, cream, green, speckled eggs, white duck eggs, and also an occasional goose egg thrown in for variation. People love them. I started out just giving egg baskets away to friends and neighbors, but when visitors to these friends and neighbors would see the baskets, I started getting actual paying customers. People love the variation and colors. I always aim for getting the most variation I can in each order. Next year I hope to get some dark brown and blue egg layers to add to the flock for just that reason.

I can get a small fortune for my eggs as NeeleysAVLChicks said.

French Marans. (And not Cuckoo Marans)

Your "Ameraucanas" are actually Easter Eggers (they're a sort of crossbreed that lays colorful eggs) though. The blue eggs in my avatar are from true Ameraucanas, but otherwise, Ameraucanas should not and do not lay green, pink, or brown eggs. Hatcheries and feedstores make this confusion with customers all the time. . . For one, hatcheries/feedstores don't sell real Ameraucanas.
