brown leghorn breeders

of course, i used google. and found the link you just posted. did you go there? there are no breeders listed. and you can barely read the site. i also used the search function here, which is how i found this thread.

thanks for trying to help. and please do update if you have any other information.

my question still stands - - where are the leghorn breeders? anyone?

You should be able to post a wanted ad on BYC and may get more hits.

i use safari - - maybe that is the issue with layout of the site. however, it doesn't matter, there are no breeders listed there. thanks for the tip on the wanted post.

I know some people don't like hatchery birds but I got 25 Brown Leghorns from Cackle this spring and I love them. Again my first time with them, but the quality to me seems great, and I have gotten quite a few compliments on them.

So, when you really want to get into a breed, the very best thing you can do is find out if they have a breed club because there you will find the best of the best. The Brown Leghorn has one of the oldest breed clubs in the nation. Here is the link: http://www.the-coop.org/leghorn/ablc1.html#about If it doesn't work just google "American Brown Leghorn Club". Dues for one year are $8.00, which is a pitence. Join right away, and when you send in your information ask let the secretary know that you are seriously looking for stock. He/She is going to direct you to breeders. One of the best ways to procure stock is actually not as chicks but as pairs and trios from which you'll incubate your own chicks next spring.

The Brown Leghorn is one of the most perfected varieties of fowl in the nation today, and hatchery stock cannot compare. If you already have hatchery stock, great, use them for eggs, but think about getting some high quality brown leghorn stock for your future breedings.

Join the club and best of luck!!

PS: I'm realizing that this link is already in this thread. The concern is that there are no breeders listed. Many Clubs only make that information available to members; thus, you must join to meet the breeders, which, of course, makes sense. For eight bucks, you don't have much to lose. Their secretary is excellent; he writes an article each month for the Poultry Press, which is usually some of the most informative in the whole rag.
