I fell victim to TSC 50% off chicks sale today when I just went for some soil 🤦🏻‍♀️ I got 4 brown leghorns that said they were sexed but I’m reading online that they aren’t really a sexable chick? Has anyone had luck with Brown leghorns really being pullets or is it more of a 50/50 shot?

It's possible they were vent sexed at the hatchery, but that doesn't mean they didn't get mixed up during shipment or while being transferred to the bins at TSC.

Brown leghorns are easy to sex by around 3 week. Pullets will get salmon/brown breast feathers. Cockerels will get black ones.

They had a couple others in the bin that looked way different so I made sure he didn’t grab those for me. But hopefully I’ll be able to tell in a couple months who’s a roo and who’s a hen!

This is good info! Thank you! I’m excited to add some more beautiful hens to the flock 😍

They tend to be active and smart. Mine is also NOISY. She's louder than my roosters, demanding one of them come remove the higher ranked hen from the nest box she wants to lay in.

That’s hilarious. I have a pretty mixed flock right now so I’m curious how this is gonna go 😂

Ok these babies are 2 days from 4 weeks and they all pretty much look like this. Their feathers look brown and black! lol. Comb is pretty big too 😳

That's looking pullet. I currently have this baby (not a leghorn)

those are black breast feathers. What's nesting with me is the rest of the chick.

mixed breed of mixed breed, so I'm thinking cockerel from the breast, but the rest of the body is dun laced? Dunno what I'm dealing with from the genetics mix, so...waiting. 3.5 weeks old, so more time yet.
