Brown Leghorn Chicks

For brown layers, I really love my black sex link so far. She’s the nicest and I absolutely adore her shiny black coat with golden red leakage. So gorgeous!!! My problem so far is I have too many brown layers and there’s so many more brown layers that I want to add to my flock 😭

Ps one of my black sex links got mixed up and ended up being some sort of Easter/olive egger. Be careful and look at the chicks the worker is choosing!
I also love the look of the black sexlinks!! So pretty. I have red ones now and they lay so great. They each only take 1-2 days off a month from laying. It’s pretty impressive. They’re very sweet to me but not so nice to the other chickens. That’s my only complaint with them. Took almost 2 months to integrate new chickens in with them cause they’re so mean lol.

Woah! 2 months is crazy. I have a buff Orpington that runs over and pecks my chicks. But in 2 weeks I was able to introduce my chicks by the time they were 4 weeks old. It sucks that they do that!

It super sucks. The ones I introduced to them (that took 2 months to integrate) seem to be warming up to the 3 new ones I have very well. I partitioned off the end of the run last week and put the new babies in there and the old babies, within a day, were laying against the partition talking to them and hanging out. The old ladies could never lol.

Thats great for you!

Brown leghorns are easy to sex by around 3 week. Pullets will get salmon/brown breast feathers. Cockerels will get black ones.

We have more full breast feathers. I’m giving two away as pullets and just want to make SURE SURE they’re pullets lol (edited cause I didn’t realize I already posted about this 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just get nervous telling someone they’re one thing if they could be something else!)

Yes, they're pullets

Yes. My rhode island red chick, who’s growing in feathers, has black tips on her feathers and they grow redder and redder by the day. They don't seem to be becoming completely black. So yes all pullets.
Good to know! Thank you!
