Hello! I have a hatchery sexed brown leghorn pullet. She is my first leghorn. She seems different from my other pullets. Is it because she is a leghorn or because she is really a cockerel? Sorry the pics are not better. She clearly is not Americas Next Top Model.

Thanks for your reply! I was hoping that was not the case. I cannot keep a roo and I like him/her very much. What makes you think boy? When should I be able to tell for certain?

I had a couple of brown leghorns that I raised a few years back. They did look quite roo-ish for a while (their comb seemed larger, larger feet), but they ended up some pretty hens. What other pullet breeds do you have that you're comparing her/him against?

Thanks for the reply! I mostly comparing how slowly her feathers are coming in. I have a barred rock and an EEer of the same age. I originally had 2 brown leghorns but lost the first one not long after getting them. The other one was much more feathered out even at a young age. I guess that is why I want her to be a pullet so badly. I am still sad from losing the other one I would hate to end up with none :(

This color doesn't keep you guessing long! Around 4 weeks when they're mostly feathered you'll be pretty sure of gender, and positive by 6 weeks. Comb and leg thickness are always rooster signs, but with this breed males and females are colored differently. If it grows black feathers on the breast, it's a boy. Light brown/salmon feathers on the breast, it's female.

Hello again! Here is "her" chest. Thoughts? She will be 4 weeks on Saturday.

Hi, I am a new chicken owner and got this baby 2 days ago, it's supposed to be a bantam.. Does it look like urs?? Too me it does. I'm trying to figure out what kind it is.

They do look similar but mine was not a bantam and had not nearly as many feathers at a young age.
