I have 8 brown leghorns that are about 25 weeks old. From what I can find, shouldn't they have started laying already? Any idea as to what might be up?
Thank you,
Madie

Add up the exact number of daylight hours you are getting right now in Maine. At your latitude, I'd expect it's something less than twelve hours, which is barely what is required to trigger the egg laying hormones.

Be patient. After January, the increasing length of daylight hours may trigger the hormones whereas now the decreasing daylight hours has the exact opposite effect.
