Brown Leghorns: Pics, Info, and Resources

Pics
What size egg do the Isabelle's lay. I head it was small to medium, not large like other leghorns.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In the lower left hand corner are 4 isabelle leghorn eggs. On the right hand side is an australorp, an EE, an DBL and an isbar. I fine them to be large. One hen occasionally lays a smaller egg, but not every time. That is her egg which is second from the bottom on the left side.

Good to know not all of them lay smaller eggs.

Has anyone had problems with their Leghorns being LOUD? Mine are sooooo loud. Love them but I don't think my neighbors do.

I dunno... I have a bunch of chickens, and roosters, and a barky dog, and now goats. :idunno

Did I mention screaming kids?

I once worried that the roosters crowing all night under the Alaskan summer (almost constant daylight) bothered the neighbors, but they said they like the sound. :idunno

Hi. My husband and I are new chicken owners and new to this site. We have 5 different breeds (14 hens total), ranging from 1 1/2 weeks old to 4 weeks. Two of the newest (1 1/2 weeks old) are brown leghorns
One is already feathered all over her body with a 1 inch long tail. The other barely has an inch of feathers and just started getting a hint of tail growth last night. Does this mean one is a hen and one is a rooster? Or can they sometimes develop at different rates? They were hatched on the very same day.
Thanks for any answers! We are truly enjoying getting to know all of our chickens .... I think we are already in love with all of them!!!

I don't have any leghorns but I have neighbors and I had a dozen roosters. I asked the neighbor if they bothered him as he whistled in response to every time he heard one crow, he also said he liked the sound.

Unfortunately... It might mean it is a boy and a girl, and might not... Depends on the breeding. Are the combs about the same? If the slower feathering one has a much bigger comb, then yes, it is a boy.

My husband will be thrilled if we have a brown leghorn rooster!! They are beautiful birds! The slower feathering one does have a slightly larger and different looking comb. So hard to distinguish, though, since they are only a week and
400
[/IMG]a half old. I'm going to try to upload pics of the two of them together.
The possible rooster is the one in the front. Anyone care to take a guess based on the way the comb looks? :) it doesn't matter to us either way - I'd just be interested to have opinions from more seasoned chicken owners!
Thanks!
