Hello, my old girl Brownie got left in large coop last night. And she literally was pecked. It's on the right side, and by the comb. What do I use to clean it? Any and all suggestions appreciated. Her flock siblings have all passed. She is our matriarch.

I'm no expert, but here's what I think....

First, separate her from the others (keeping her in the house probably would be best)

Clean the blood off with a damp paper towel

Then, when I get minor cuts, I put neosporin (no painkiller!! - one of the ingredients in the painkiller is toxic for chickens) on the cut... don't know if that's good for such a big spot, though... You probably would want to cover the spot (would a bandaid work?) to keep her from scratching at it.

Make sure she's well hydrated and she's eating...

Can she see out of that eye?

Also, reintroducing her to the flock might be hard.....

She was not part of the flock. She is our old girl and has her own coop. We let her free range and she jumped the fence. My son didn't check completely. For all the birds. I will bring her in and clean her up. And put some neopsporin on it. She's a pet. Thanks! And yes she can see fine. Picture makes it look worse.

I cleaned her up. She is in a pet carrier covered up and asleep. I will watch her and apply neopsporin a little later.

The vet said pretty much the same thing. Just watch the injuries. It's funny how you cover them up. And asleep they go.
