Hello,

Today I found one of our pullets, who just started laying this week, with these lumps on her head and cheek on just the one side. This looks to me like bruising from hitting her head on something but wanted some other people's input too. She's moving normally, eating and drinking normally, eyes are equally reactive to light and movement. Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

How would she had hit her head?? It does look like bruising 5hough.

Have you tried feeling the lumps? Are they on her skin or under? If on her skin, is there a coloration ... Separate her feathers & take pic for us. @Kiki has a good point ... Looks to be in the area of her ear. locating chicken ear
Yes, both lumps are soft and moveable. The one on top of her head is also purple/green. I looked at her ear and didn't see any drainage or swelling in the ear itself, although it was hard to get a solid look. I did find more scrapes/dried blood around the top side of her head though, nothing new from yesterday, just didn't see them before. Couldn't get a good picture, unfortunately :(

That might be swelling from infection in the ear area.
Can you tell where the ear hole is?
Yes, I was able to visualize it when I moved her feathers around, but not able to get a picture. Her ear didn't have any drainage, it looked fairly normal.

Christmas! Had a partially scalped silkie with swelling that was that color, except it was just about his whole head. It was soft and squishy.

Checked on her this morning and the lumps look about the same. With my husband's help, I was able to get a front shot that also shows the top of the head lump better. When I move the feathers aside, it's also very purple/green like the ear lobe.
