Cara looked to him, confused. Didn't he sleep with the herd? She glanced to Shard, noting his closeness then looked back to Moon "I don't understand"
Shard continued to wait patiently, nothing moving except his flicking tail, and an occasional ear swivel.
Moon shrugged. " I sleep a bit farther away from them." He looked at her. " I some times want to be alone."

Cara smiled again "Oh, I understand now. I have times I want to be alone also."
As Cara conversed with Moon, Shard drew nearer-and-nearer to her.
Moon nodded.
Moon realized this and said to Cara, " Hey, do you want to go get a drink?"

"Alright" Cara said and walked over to Moon, smiling softly
Moon walked slowly. " Should we go to the river or find a puddle?"
Shard closed his eyes and sighed. Reopening them, he walked after Cara, unfazed. If he had to be the third wheel to get the mare's attention, then so be it.
