Bruno: New pup with parvo

Improvement! Small, but definitely worth celebrating... he's drinking!!
I saw him take his first sip around midnight last night, I held the bowl for him and he overdid it and most came back up, but the important bit is the interest in it! Thats the first time since Saturday night that I've watched him take a drink on his own.
Giving him another Cerenia injection so maybe he can start keeping some down.
Continuing IVF schedule as before.

Consult with your vet on this, but I think he needs nutrition of some sort. Broth would be good because it has electrolytes and being liquid will help with the dehydration. You might get some baby food. I have gotten sick dogs to eat by putting the baby food on my finger and putting it in the mouth. I saved my very sick little Sammy by doing this. Mashed up hard boiled eggs or cooked chicken would be good too.

Poor Bruno! Just keep pushing those fluids regularly until the virus runs its course; don't even worry about food unless your vet says otherwise. (Since parvo attacks the lining of the intestines, digesting food would hurt.) Hang in there :hugs
That is why I said check with the vet.

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.
It breaks my heart to say that Bruno passed away early this afternoon. I was with him in his last moments.
I was so hopeful last night; he really seemed to be rallying only to take a nose dive this morning.
My vet assures me that we did all we could. Supportive care is the only option. They have to struggle through this horrible ordeal and some just don't have the reserves to fight what's happening to their bodies.

He deserved so much better than this, all dogs do.
He was with us less than 4 whole days, but he will always be remembered and loved by our family.

It breaks my heart that all this pain and suffering could have been avoided by a simple vaccine. I just want to scream... Why do people keep animals that they cannot afford to properly care for? And worse, allow those animals to breed and make MORE animals that they can't care for.
I get that mistakes happen, and life knocks you back a few steps sometimes, but this is a poignant example of how animals suffer when put on the back burner.

Before she stopped answering my calls and texts, the woman who gave us Bruno informed me that his seven remaining littermates were surrendered to an emergency clinic Sunday night. As of then, four had already been euthanized.

I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. And grateful he was with you, where he experienced kind and loving care! 💕

Unfortunately I see this way to many times in the animal care field in the south. Everyone here treats them as ways to make money or expendable toys. I'm not sure where you're located but it's extremely common here in FL.

It breaks my heart too and I'm so sorry you had to experience this.

Quick note: I know you're grieving, and I'm so sorry to mention this, but if you haven't already I would tell the clinic she surrendered them to about the parvo ASAP. Parvo is highly contagious and could kill a lot more dogs if those puppies aren't quarantined.
