One of my RIRs has a weird bubble type thing in the front of her chest. It's HUGE. It doesn't seem to bother her, but it's been there at least a few days. It's not red or irritated in appearance, just very obvious even from far away. It feels like it's filled w/fluid or air, it's not solid or anything. I guess it's about where the crop would be, after looking at pictures. Do I need to do anything? They are on Layer feed with no real supplements except occasional roaming around the yard when we're outside. She was running around the yard with the other hens just fine this afternoon, eating the grass as usual. Also - we have gotten eggs from all 4 hens for the past 2 days, in case that matters. The 2 days before that we got 3 each day.

Thanks!!

sounds like a full crop to me. Are you sure it's not a full crop? check her in the morning before she has a chance to eat. the crop should empty over night. I have a EE who's crop in large more often than small.

Not really see-thru, but very thin, yes. It looks just like a balloon under her skin.

Florida Lee - I'll check her out in the morning to see if it's any different. Thanks!

I have a little Button Quail who did it only it gradually expanded throughout his front in a few days. I checked on here and found something about a condition affection chickens, I'll see if I can find it.
I ended up popping it with a sterile needle and it never came back again it was just air inside which was really odd I expected the poor little thing to go whizzing across the room like a balloon when I did it lol

There's
a condition called AIR SACULITIS that might be worth a look to see if the symptoms fit

Well I went out to check on them this morning and I couldn't tell which one I was supposed to be checking on - so I guess that's good, lol. I'll keep an eye on them all and see if anyone gets another bubble, but I'm guessing one of them just has a really prominent crop??

Thanks for the replies!
