bubble wrap and non toxic markers

I've gotten them received lots of different ways. I've had some marked with sharpie do well...and some not. Some wrapped with bubble wrap done well...and some not. Some wrapped in cotton batting done well...and some not. It's such a crapshoot. It really easy.

I personally don't mark with anything except pencil just because I've had so many people tell me anything worse is bad for the egg and not seep through, but that's my personal preference. I also normally use a bum load of bubble wrap...but I have a certain odd fondness for bubble wrap. ;-)

My input is, if it keeps working for you, do it.

BUT if you do send her a silkie, please don't mark it with a sharpie and wrap it in bubble wrap. ;-)

well thanks, but i think he may be a self proclaimed serama god. i am a self proclaimed serama flunky and work at the will and wims of my flock.

thanks alot, i may switch to a pencil, but marker is softer and works well and i don't have to sharpen it..

Well, from a self-proclaimed chicken hatching moron... even I can hatch bubblewrapped and written on eggs with my flaky home made cooler a bator.

She's just looking for someone to blame...

More likely either bad incubator/broody luck or a bit too enthusiastic handling by your friends at the USPS than bubblewrap and marker...

I've had the best hatches from shipped eggs wrapped in bubble wrap. Those I got wrapped in newspaper weren't broken but never developed at all. I use pencil and sharpie depending on what's closest to my hand. My chicks have been just fine coming from eggs I marked with sharpies. LOL I think they are just trying to blame you for a poor hatch with a poor excuse.

I use sharpie on all my guinea eggs and they hatch like popcorn. The guinea eggs go under bantam hens to hatch, I have at least 20 broodys and I might as well put them to work, I put dates and x s and rings all over the eggs so I can see them at a glance when gathering eggs. They get the guinea eggs because they fight over the nests and guinea eggs are the only ones to survive that!

I use bubble wrap to ship all my eggs. I agree she is doing something wrong, Im guessing temps are off. and Its not because of sharpies and bubble wrap she is just trying to blame someone. I dont mark any of my eggs I ship so they cant complain about that!

You know, after a conversation today with a 'professed life-time' chicken person, it may be a case of just plain ignorance.
People get an idea stuck in their mind and it can be difficult, if not impossible, to convince them otherwise.
The world does continue to move on despite these individuals.

thanks folks, maybe the lady saw these post and my have gotten informed. i have not heard anymore so far ref to the bad hatches, but i am always willing to help folks that have a chicken hatching problem. but remember if you are not good at incubation, your silkie hen is and please let her do all the work.. she and i will thank you... sell them some silkie eggs dipsy!!!

I think that good business PR would be to direct her to a person who ships eggs in the manner that she has been told works well. If the fault is with her incubation methods then she still won't be able to hatch any eggs. This helps her out and makes you look like a wonderful person who really cares about her customers.

I got eggs that I know are fertilized directly from my friends hens. Several of her hens have chicks following them about. So, if I fail, it is my own fault and I have to adjust my procedures. I would guess that hatching chicks has a learning curve and that some people will fail a few times before they succeed.
