I am thinking I need to get Vetricyn opthamalgic ointment to treat. Or does this look like a non issue probably will resolve without any intervention kind of thing?

only 1 chicken is affected
Still with flock eating well (free ranging, eats FF every 5 hours, currently eating some pumpkin....) used scratch to get the headshot.
not being harassed by others
Having a bad hair day looks like the boys put some FF in her hair. :highfive::highfive:

So after reviewing other threads this is a common indicator of a generic upper respiratory infection and pretty non specific symptom. I think ill just monitor and hit it with some saline, I heard someone sneezing the other day but didn't think much of it and think I have identified "Sneezy" now.

Ok nobody as replied to this but today the eye is just a bit crusty with no active bubbles, looks like my chicken is winning the immune system fight with her case of the sniffles. No longer concerned and no other chicken in the flock are showing any evidence of the sniffles either.

One of my girls has bubbles in one eye, too. She’s eating like normal, although she doesn’t seem to be drinking as much water. Everything is not quite normal as it’s molting season. But her eye look s like it’s got a bite on the eyelid. What’s really going on? Yesterday There was a bit of bubbles in the right eye also. But today it’s clear.

I don't know why no one answered your posts for 2 days--I honestly just now saw it. Since your chicken has black skin, it is hard to see if she has any scabs from fowl pox or peck marks around her eyelids. That as well as mycoplasma (MG) a respiratory disease that causes sinus infection and pink eye, can cause eye foam. Can you see any nasal drainage, rattly or wheezy breathing? The Vetericyn can be good to use, as well as Terramycin eye ointment twice a day, after cleaning the eye with saline and cotton swabs.

Achiekitty, I would try to get a better photo of the bad eye or the bite mark. Is there pus in the eye, or are you seeing any of the same symptoms for a respiratory infection--sneezing, nasal drainage, rattly breathing? There can be crust that forms on the face or around the eye after the watery eyes drain. If it seems like a respiratory infection, you can get Tylan 50 injectable, plus syringes and needles from a feed store, and give it orally. If it only seems like a pecked eye, then Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel may help. Either one is fine, but the eye should be clean before using one of them twice a day.

Eggcessive,
Thanks. I will try to take another picture of her eye in the morning. She doesn’t have any of the respiratory symptoms. Is there a trick to put the ointment on? Is there a more natural or herbal treatment that I can use? I put garlic and apple cider vinegar in their water, to try to boost her immunity.

This is a good question. Someone recommended colloidal silver to me for leg wounds on my rooster. I forgot about it until now.

Do some reading on colloidal silver specific to eye infections. The cause of the infection is probably elsewhere in your hen, but this may be a good place to start. It's affordable and the bottle should last a long time. You can find it at any health food store.

I'm not familiar with giving it internally to chickens, so for an immune booster you could try an herbal tincture that has echinacea and goldenseal.

Ok the Bird is still fine. Most of her drainage has now dried. She does have a healthy appetite and I am loathe to cull

The symptom has turned now into a hard dred out bubble crust. I'm thinking this a just watch and see others on the flock are unaffected. Her Breathing is unimpaired. One of the corckrels does show signs of getting pecked and has some damage to his face with no involvement to his eyes but one of the three started crowing last week. So I am expecting some adjustment soon. I really need to spend a solid day observing these guys and how they treat the gals in regards to all of out raptors to crown a roo. I am thinking that I am just being a bit overprotective at the first sign of illness. The roos are all doing their job of keeping their hen's safe from all of the falcons and hawks we see this time of year I seriously hope no neighbor has me on video giving the raptors a good talking to!
