Bubbles in 1 eye affecting 1 chicken in flock

It is great that she is doing okay. I would try to clean the crust off the eye with saline. It is hard to apply ointment into the eye by yourself, but it can be done. I hold them with one arm and with the same hand pry open the eye, and put a small dot of ointment on the lower lid, and they will blink and spread it as it melts. Repeat twice a day.

Eggcessive,
Thanks. I will try to take another picture of her eye in the morning. She doesn’t have any of the respiratory symptoms. Is there a trick to put the ointment on? Is there a more natural or herbal treatment that I can use? I put garlic and apple cider vinegar in their water, to try to boost her immunity.

Just a follow-up. I never got around to taking that other photo. But I’m happy to report that Brownie is doing much better and back to her “adventurous” self, running towards me when I do my whistle call. The left eye is all healed, no more bubbles as the swelling is all but gone. (Her eye got swollen and it looked likeafter I took the first picture and with her molting around her face, she did not look good.)

I looked around the site some more and read a bunch of ideas. So this was what I ended up doing.

I bought VetRX from Amazon and started dropping some on her head and the others, too. I also splashed her eye with saline solution. The first time I splashed her eye she starred flapping her wings to get away and she avoided me for days after that. But we managed to catch her and found that if my husband held her, then I can get the eye drop to drop the water in her eyes. By the 3rd for 4th day, when her eye was looking better, she seemed to not mind the saline water anymore.

I stopped the saline treatment but continuing to drop VetRX on top of all three chickens head as a precaution. One of the other chicken is having a hard molt and hiding under the tomato plant most of the day.

Looking forward to her completing the molt. She looks pitiful and gotten even crankier towards Brownie, the newly recovered hen.
