You might check with a local vet to buy a sterile swab kit that they collect cultures in normally. I suppose treating her with Tylan before getting the culture might skew the results. You can ask the lab.

Yes, I did think of that as well.

First of all, thank you so much for taking your time to answer my crazy and paranoid questions. If you’re like me you’d rather be spending time with your birds. So thank you.

But I will say, I am still a bit confused. Last night I was still searching for the answer to what I think I don’t want to hear. When talking about closed flocks I can only find people talking about
1) Protecting their “undiseased” healthy flock and people
2) Practicing biosecurity.​
What I am wanting to know is, “Should I protect every other flock from my birds?” and “Can I still purchase or hatch chicks for my own pleasure, not to sell?”
