Duck weed will clean the water, it is a heavy feeder of nutrients. I didn't like the fact my pond was green when we moved here until I read up on it. I feed it to our chickens now.

Duck weed is awesome. It is good food for everything from farm animals to fish. It may not be able to keep up with the ducks in a small pool if they eat it constantly. You could have a small area the ducks cant get to where it could continue to grow and replenish. You can also freeze cubes of it for treats in the winter.
