I noticed a few weeks ago that my 5 gallon HN bucket had ice forming on the top. It was still working but ice is unusual even on the coldest days. I bought a replcement heater, just in case. It has been cold recently with lows being 12F. That is a bit cold for SE Massachusetts, but we often experience a few days below zero. This morning the nipples were frozen and the bucket was mostly frozen. It turns out the heating unit rusted and and tripped the breaker. Glad that a qualified electrican wired the coop. Anyway, the water is once again liquid.
