Bucket nest boxes?

I think we need a sticky at the top of the page for pictures of nest boxes.
Here is mine out of the storage tote:

Rather than screwing them all together, perhaps building an A frame to enclose them snugly. Then, across the front of each nest box place a 3 or 4 inch board which also would be part of the framing....just a thought.

With my square type cat litter boxes, I also drilled several 1 inch holes at the back top of each nest to allow for venting in hotter weather.

Since I only have a few silkies, my litterbox nests are just secured with that board at a low level for their needs. they're also tipped back slightly to help retain nesting material.

Good luck with your design.

Try this.
Take a cat litter bucket and cut it in half with the bottom half the depth you want.

Split one of the corners of the bottom half so it will slide into the top half.

Put some hot glue all around the sides of the bottom half near the cut edge and then quickly insert it into the top half pushing it to where it meets with the lid.

Leave the small portion of the lid attached to the bucket removing the lid flap and you have a nice nesting box that is easy to clean. You can even keep the carrying strap attached as an additional mounting bracket.

I mounted mine for a banty by just screwing through the back into the wooden wall with deck screws.

Just an idea.

After seeing the size of Justusnak's Buff Orpingtons (of which I got 3 chicks), i'm thinking my buckets are too small.

Those birds are HUGE!!
I have some old lumber in the barn. I may get creative and try to actually build something.
