Bucket-o-Questions... Fill me in, please?

We keep things as simple as possible, so for us just removing the ice when appropriate is fine, but I think anything that can keep the surface of the water moving should stop it from freezing as long as it's not like a new ice age

Well, my boys are pretty quiet. When you're right next to them they sound loud, but when they're a few metres away you realise you can only hear a faint squawk. Also, when they're foraging and preening (which is quite a lot of the time) they don't make so much noise because their mouths are busy! The girls are definitely a lot noisier, but so far mine have only made a big noise when one calls to the others if she's been seperated or if they're spooked suddenly by something very close to them. If you click the link for the video in my thread about my ducks (link in sig) then you can hear them

About fencing, we don't actually have any since ours aren't outside... yet...

I've never seen the boys fly more than a couple of feet off the ground. They don't really try much to be honest, unless it's very windy and they feel like having a good old flap or if there's an obstacle (like the hose) in their path and they fly over it

The girls have been flapping a lot recently but I've seen them get maybe an inch or two off the ground. It does vary from bird to bird though I think, so lighter birds may be able to fly better than heavier ones, although even then I wouldn't think they could keep it up for long enough to get very far away

Well.. I think I've changed my mind again as to what breed.. I'm 99.9% set on Welsh Harlequins.. They're very cute, seem to be on the high side of egg production and seem quiet as a mouse, from what I'd seen of them.

If you want perfect birds that meet the exact ALBC standards of the breed buy them from Holderreads http://www.holderreadfarm.com/
If
you want nice backyard pets that are very hardy and frienldy but still pretty although may have a few inperfections (eye stripes etc.) then get your WH from Metzer www.metzerfarms.com
DO NOT buy ducklings from www.eFowl.com they have good prices but there are plenty of horror stories of ducklings from them DOA or with horrible defects.
Have fun with them...they are lots of work lol

Hmm... New Q...

Feeder... Inside the duck house, or outside?

Wondering about this since the run will be shared between the ducks and the chickens.. Besides, the food will get wet if it rains.. Unless it's covered..
