Let me start by say that I just love my little Buckeyes! They are all almost 8 weeks old and I was hoping to get some ideas on their genders. I started with hatchery birds (since I am still new to chickens) to decide if Buckeyes were the breed for me. Everything I have read or heard about them, I thought they might be. So far, I am really enjoying them.

Now, I did order pullets, but since I have 5 of them, all the same age, I have been noticing some differences that has me questioning some of them. Thicker legs, shorter tails, attitudes, stuff like that. I have tried looking at their combs, but there doesn't seem to be too much of a difference between any of them at this time. (Plus, I don't really know what I am looking for anyways!

) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Or, if there is anything I should particularly be watching for in Buckeyes to tell cockerels from pullets, I would love to hear it.

Here they are

Bluebell

Buttercup

Clover

Lilac

Olive

Not familiar with Buckeyes...... but I think with most breeds cockerels at that age would be showing some significant wattle size and redder comb/wattle than what you've got there.

Hi! No opinion here, because I'm new to chickens and Buckeyes too. Mine are just 2 weeks old. I just wanted to thank you for posting pix of your beautiful girls! Now I know what to look forward too, and have a source to compare in a few weeks.

Thank you! I decided when I got my first chicks that I would take pictures of each one every week. At least until they were a few months old. It is amazing to see how much they grow each week!
