I have a few Buckeye hens, they are 49 weeks old. They have never layed an egg. We got the as chicks at the very end of April last year. So we ran into winter when all of our other breeds started laying. However the Buckeye never did. Is this normal? They seem healthy and have a great diet. No other concerns at all.

I have had other heritage breeds that took about a year to start laying, My only buckeye is a rooster about the same age as your hens. He took a loooong time to fill out so I would not be surprised at all if the hens were similarly slow to mature.

Can you post pics of this bird?
Is her comb pale or bright red?
Do you free range?
Might be time for an exam:
