I have a small flock of five hens; only two are laying, the others are mature (I guess) as they haven't laid a single egg in the year I've had them. Anyways, I'd really like to add just a couple new pullets to my flock and would really like them to be BUCKEYES. My problem is, I don't know where in Maine I can get a couple. Does anyone know?

Check out the Buckeye breeders directory here. Looks like there is a breeder in Maine. You could also order as few as three chicks from some online hatcheries, such as Meyer, but their shipping and processing charges for small orders are very high.

They are our favorite breed - and we've raised around 30 different breeds of chicken. They also have an inquisitive and fearless personality. I've never seen any at TSC. I'd think they are a little too rare to be found there, but you never know. Check out the directory I posted above.

I have never seen pullets at TSC and I don't think they carry heritage breeds. I was hoping to locate a supplier I could drive to and only get 1 or 2 Buckeyes. The contacts for the one Maine supplier are no longer valid. I thank you for that list and anyone's response. Has anyone ordered Buckeyes from Meyer Hatchery before? Opinions?

Try asking in the Buckeye thread here at BYC for breeders in Maine. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/271644/buckeye-breed-thread

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy http://albc-usa.org/breeddir/ has a Buckeye breeder list that is more up to date, and the American Buckeye Poultry Club has a more up to date list too, but the website is being revamped and is down right now. Pathfinders, treasurer of the club, is on the Buckeye thread that I listed above though. She has the list of breeders and can tell you if there are any close to you.
