Did anybody kill any big bucks yet?

My season starts the first of December. We have better success with the late season here. DH says I will get a big one, I say I don't care as long as it fills up our freezer.

Bow season started here October 1st. I haven't had a chance to get out yet, but my brother called me yesterday to let me know he nailed a 150+ buck- and a doe the same day. Lucky you-know-what!!!!

Don't get me started here. We're trying to start a new fence line...and Yesterday someone sighted there gun on my daughter on our property.

Could someone share with me a nice way to try to keep them off our property? We have nothing against hunting...even like some venison. We just have dogs, chickens, goats, and a child, and we are working in these woods (properly attired in orange vests now that it's hunting season which is what peeved me so much about him sighting her as she was wearing one) and they even tear our No hunting signs down.

When we hear voices, or crashing in the woods, hooting for dogs we call out that there are people out here working please hunt somewhere else today. The problem is that 6 or 7 different people show up to hunt from morning to night.

There are rules about how you have to mark your property. Here I think it's with purple paint and it has to be every so many feet. Look it up or contact your local officials. I would be contacting them anyway to alert them to your problems.

How exactly do you know someone had the scope on your daughter?? That just seems weird that you could tell that, just by being there?? I personally would have sighted right back at them.

Honestly though, if they're on the OTHER side of your fence line there's not much you can do. They may have permission to hunt there?? They still need to be more careful, but lets face it just about anyone can buy a hunting permit. Again, I'd be patrolling my fence line with a rifle at least as big as theirs if I had to, but that's just me.

I've heard stories about the property owner catching the tresspassers at gunpoint, taking their keys and locking them out of their vehicle and sending them home on foot. I heard this from the game and fish people, so yes I know the local wardens would uphold the landowner's side if the stupid tresspassers had the gall to complain to the police.

Right now we've been walking up to them Shaking their hand, notifying them they are on our property and we would rather they not hunt here. We let them know we have no problem with hunting, but that we have dogs that aren't friendly, goats, chickens etc and a child that we worry about. We also let them know that the brush is currently so dense that we are concerned they won't know how close they are to our houses.

They then pull the "oh I was just looking for my dogs" trick. I let them know if their dogs have run off they are perfectly welcome to look for them on my land if the rifle is locked in the car.

The fence on this side of the property isn't up yet as we are still bush hogging the brush with the tractor. The guys were just walking down our newly bush hogged fence line and they were about 400-500 feet away from us. My daughter screamed, jumped in the brush and yelled to me that the guy pointed his gun at her. I turned around in time to see him lower his gun turn around and he and his friend hurried their butts off my property. I never had to say a word at that point. I think when you hear a girl scream "Momma that man pointed a gun at me" you know you can get out or the police will be on the way.

Thank you all for the recommendation. I'm a norther City Girl turned southern farmgirl. We thought at first that posting "No Hunting Permitted" signs would do it, but as I said they were torn down, posts torn right out of the ground. We've just come out of blackshot season and into full on deer. (Eastern NC). There are deer tracks everywhere so I know why they are coming here. I know our land was well known as a hunting spot before we bought it.

I don't want to upset these guys, there may come a time when we need some Deer culled and I'd like to be able to pull my dogs in and let them onto the back of the property to hunt them.

I do have Philips number somewhere on my desk, it's just that they call my desk the "Desk of Terror" for a reason. I'll have to find it before Saturday. (Philip is the local game warden) If it's a simple as Purple spray paint I'll have the whole dang place marked up!

We have a lot of work to do out there and we can't be limited by when folks are out hunting.

That sounds like assault to me. There is no reason for them to have done that. None.

As far as wanting to stay on their good side, you'd have no trouble finding someone more responsible to come hunt on your land. I'd post it as "no tresspassing" or whatever your rules there require, then drop by the local gun club and get to know some people and invite some reasonable people to phone or email if they'd like to come over and hunt. If they don't need a spot, they'll know someone who does.

Where I grew up, we were allowed to hunt at age 14. My friends and I would always ask landowners for permission first, even at that age.​

Maybe I need to head down to the local gun club and just let them know that the land is currently off limits, but that we will gladly let them know when the Deer, fox, or turkeys get to be a problem for us.

I will also be talking to Philip this week about what the proper way to post so that anyone walking the woods from the land next door or coming off the road front will know it's marked as private, preferably marked as no hunting.

Now, I guess I'll return you to your regularly schedule post. Anyone get a big buck? How many points??? How do y'all plan to store/cook em?
