Budgie Breeding Project! *PICS*

I would definitely pull the mirror out of the cage if he spends that much time there. If he is imprinted on mirrors he may be a less than spectacular breeder. If he only has one choice of bird to admire he is more likely to pay attention to the female.

That looks like a grat setup. I would take the mirror out though. You want him to be in love with her not himself. She will need him to feed her when the babies hatch. Although she can do it herself but she needs him to help sit on the eggs and feed.

So I suggest you take out the mirror. Other wise everything looks great. I can't wait to see the babies. I had a sky blue female and a white male and got some very pretty babies from them. My Aviary looked like a raimbow with all the different color parents and babies.

I sure do miss raising them. I also had cockatiels too. I hand fed them. I also sold them to pet shops. I got more when I sold them to individuals. Back then I got $50 each from individuals. I'm srue the price is more now.

Oh, I sure do miss it. I also had a pair of white doves. I aquired a Quaker parakeet too. It was meaner than the gates of you wknow where. He was alone and would pull out his own feathers and weave them in the bars of his cage. I had to wear a leather glove just to feed and water and clean his cage. He would attack me and call me an A__ hole. I finally found somebody that had a female and he lived happily ever after. I gave him away to the lady so he would be happy.

I had a pair of Senegal Parrots that only had 1 clutch. There where 3 eggs and one of them hatched on my birthday. They where a mean pair too but the babies where tame. I hand fed them too. I kept the one that hatched on my birthday. I kept him for several years until I had a brother n law that thought it was funny to harrass him when I was at work and he made him mean. I had to find hom another home to eep my grandsons from getting hurt. He is still alive and well living just about 10 miles away. WE visit sometimes and he has never forgotten me. He hatched in 1987. He will be 22 years old this month. I'll have to bring him a birthday presant.

Day 3

OMG!

Why didn't anyone tell me how intelligent these birds were?!??!?!? This morning, it appeared that the nest perch fell off the nest. You wouldn't believe their solution!!!! They knocked down one of the long perches, and put one end into the nest box, so they may enter it. I'm not sure if the large perch fell and landed in that position, but the perches are longer than the cage and the perch was positoined straight, with about 3 inches in the nest hole...?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

So that means it couldn't have fallen in that position!!!!

That being said... Last night, they were sleeping the nest perch. This morning, they were were showing a lot of activity around the nest. They only stay on that side of the cage. I've only seen Tim enter once. They are also spending larger than usual amounts of time feeding and preening each other under the nest.

I'll try to snap some pics.

Thanks!

I removed the mirror toy and he seems to spend more time with Serenity.

Lets hope that we can get some more action on day 4

In my opinion, the mirror is for single birds only so they don't feel lonely. I had a male that fell in love with the bird in the mirror and would actuly breed it. I thought he must be one that didn't like girl birds or was very confused. I removed the mirror and gave him a mate. Turned out he just liked to mate............she didn't like him though.
