Really? He's had them for a while and his feet seem fine.

I used them for a few months, but then everything I read said not too. Do a bit of research, it's amazing how many sources you will find do not suggest sand paper.

I'm not a veterinarian but he is definitely holding his weight off of it. It may have been pulled or injured by accident with his previous placement. The good news is most injuries are minor and will right themselves, however if you notice it not healing on it's one he may have to go to the vet. If you are curious, birds are very adaptable and learn quickly to the loss of usage of one of their limbs! he will use it as little as possible while it's irritated instinctively. I can't tell in the photo if he has a band or not. Many leg injuries are caused by snagged bands; if he hasn't one perhaps it was on that leg and it got caught.
