Buff Barred Cochin Thread

Guess I need to find some ladies then, lol. I love these guys. I actually got them free as chicks and they have just roamed around here having fun. I have been thinking of showing them if that is possible.

There may be some shows where you can, but Buff Barred is not a standard color (yet), so for most shows, I think ... no. Correct me if I'm wrong. Haven't shown yet, but that's the way it was back in a day when I showed cats.

Double is much more washed out like the 2nd boy and my PB. The others are single as they are much darker and the barring is more noticeable.

Thanks. I see the difference now.

Yes some people call the color Lemon Cuckoo.
You can show them in AOV (All Other Variety) but they won't go higher then Best Variety. However, getting them to a show will get them out for more people to see them and fall in love

Here's a couple pics of one of my roos.. he's in the newly-built bachlor pen and there were a couple fo scuffs while everyone got to know each other, but they're all friends now.

Nancy, he is beautiful!!! Did you hatch him or purchase him? I love that his doesn't have any black and the dark color of him. Everything I have hatched has been double barred. Not that I don't love the double barred or anything.

My sons might be able to use them for showmanship, as these roosters have impeccable dispositions, besides being so pretty.

Guess I need to find some girls and start working on it. ..

Well, it looks like you can show them in the AOV category, but yeah ... I'd get them some girls. They're nice roosters.

I'd love any leads if you know of anybody with pullets. I have had issues hatching shipped eggs in the past (plus got a lot of roosters) so I'd rather just buy girls.

It took me a year to find some Cochins that I wanted. lol. Tom Roebuck lives close to me and is a top Cochin breeder, so I drove over there and bought some from him and my Buff Barred trio was from Lynn at Wingshadows Farm. Don't know if she still has any left. Her facebook page shows a limited amount of pullets available during a season, so it's not like she mass produces and sells them. Especially with this color, which is probably not too widespread, I'd just keep asking people in this thread and maybe put up a Google alert for the terms Buff Barred. A couple of nice Buff girls would probably be great with those roosters and may be easier to find than Buff Barred.

I was thinking of looking for just a couple buff and then keeping my eyes open for barred, since they are hard to find. I wasn't going to mess with another project, but the more I watch those boys, the more I like them.

I'll look up those folks and see what all everyone has. I'm not in a huge hurry. Honestly, I have more birds than I know what to do with!
