Buff Barred Cochin Thread

Here is my barred roo, I just got to start my own buff barred project, haven`t named him yet. Have not introduced him to the buff hens as of yet, he is still in quarantined .

I just started checking this thread again. I haven't even looked at the post since I lost PB.

Nancy, Sammy is drop dead gorgous and your others are lovely to.

Hillbilly annie, your boy is very nice and post pics of the chicks you get from him and his girls.

Amy, can't wait to see pics of your chicks and hopefully some of Dynamite and Dana!!

Some good news as well, Nugget, a PB son is coming back to live with me. Sadly, he has a slight attitude problem. I figure that he's PB's son so he deserves a chance. So I should have him this Saturday!!! I am planning on restarting this flock early next spring and will be looking for some hens and another roo.

Told 'ya I'd hang on to Sammy for you 'til you're ready for him.

I have lots of babies, lots of fairly mature roos that hatched out, only a few girls but I have a lot more headed to me from Aarron Hunsinger that got them from Steve Wheat.

Here are a few photos I snapped the other day.

This is the pair from Lynne that has helped me get a great start! This is Dana and Dynamite. They are back in breeding solely to each other at the moment since I got buff barred girls from this cross. No roos hatched from them.

Again, Dana and Dynamite in the front. To the left is a roo out of Barbara, a black barred hen on loan from my friend and he is in with Melon, a hen from Doug Bishop.
In the back is Barbara and Dougie, the roo from Doug Bishop and pair that created the roo to the left.

They all live in a big 10x10 tractor but in cages I can move around inside, as well. There is also a barred hen in with a red roo, though truly that will not give me useable birds for any project that I can tell. But she isn't laying at the moment and Chili needed a friend.

Photos of the new birds will be added tomorrow when the new birds arrive.

Aarron's got some beautiful birds! I bought a pair (of boys!

In other news, I hatched my first Buff Barred chick of the year

Awesome! They are totally gorgeous. We are making some head way, I suppose. I still have a ways to go but I did receive 7 from Aarron today. Two handsome boys and 5 lovely ladies. these will help me get my project going a bit more since the others have not been spectacular layers, except for Barbara.

I think I may call this little boy, Buck Wheat! LOL

This is Sweet Wheat!

I love Dynamite's coloring. I don't really know how to explain it. Dana is looking great and I like her black hackles!
