My buff Cochin I purchased at a talegate sale 2 weeks ago won't move. It's hunched over and it's crop is full of thick watery substance. If you lift it it drools. I have it isolated. It won't eat or drink anything. I think it starving. I feed it everyday but I think the others I had it in with abused it. I just noticed today. I never acted this way before. What do I do? When I bought it it acted a little different once it got home. It's around 4 months. The birds it was in with were 2.5 months. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

It could be an impacted crop (some blockage in the crop that's not letting any nutrients get to its body). Try feeding a tiny bit of mineral oil (olive oil if you don't have it) with a syringe or a tiny bit of cooked oatmeal, then massaging the crop in a downward motion. Is there any smell coming off of the chicken? Any diarrhea or bloody poo?

No scent or diarhea.

Keep trying to get it to drink water, with a waterer or syringe (a tiny bit of apple cider vinegar and honey in it will help with electrolytes), and keep massaging the crop. With no smells, it definitely sounds like an impacted crop to me (rather than a sour crop or something more serious). Let us know if anything changes!

Ohno I'm so sorry about your chick

Wish we could've gotten some more input on this thread. Was it treated for cocci at all? Sometimes cocci can occur without the bloody poo or other symptoms, though it's pretty rare for death to happen from cocci at 4 months. Maybe consider doing an autopsy to see if any organs appear strange? Poor little chicken

I hope the rest of your chickens stay happy and healthy
