New chick owners here. We have 12 chicks that we bought at about a week old, they are currently 3 1/2 weeks old. We have 1 Buff Orpington, 3 Ameracaunas, 3 Black Stars, and 5 Buff Cochins. The BO was the first to be our "friend" and will come right out of the brooder and sit on our arms or lap. The other have slowly come along, most recently 2 of the 3 Black Stars. But, for the life of me, we can not get the 5 Buff Cochins to be ok with us holding them or even touching them - they practically scream and then run away. I have read the Buff Cochins usually are very friendly, so what gives with these 5? They will run over and take meal worms from our hands, but still run away and peep very loudly if we try to do anything else. ANy suggestions?

Wish I did! I have three that are friendly: buff orp, RIR and a black sex link. The other two act like I'm going to kill them: golden wyndotte and ameracouna. It's kinda a bummer but not much I can do. I keep giving them meal worms and hoping...

they dont want you touching them. sometimes it better to just let them do there thing so when they are adults they will actully come near you.

I have a Buff Cochin also (about 6 weeks old), and she seems very friendly, and she loves to eat run up and eat any treats I bring out to them. But, she Hates to be picked up!! She does the peeping-screaming thing if I have to pick her up. Other then that she's fine. Maybe you problem is that they just don't like to be held.?
