Buff Cochins Chicks got lazy :s

Looks like they might mean "cedar" wood chips, it contains oils or
resins that are bad for chickens.

At ten days old the brooder needs to be 90 degrees. Are you using a heat bulb? I use a 150 watt heat bulb in the corner. You can buy pine just about anywhere, even walmart carries it. We get ours at fleet farm in the horse section. Try using a little bit of polyvisol vitamins without iron in their water. They are infant vitamins that are liquid. Good luck.

Yes. Pine is easier to clean though. Some people use sand. I personally like the pine. It keeps the odor down and is easy to clean.

You really need some kind of chick feed. feeding what you have been is not nutritional enough for them. Are they setting fluffed up like they are cold? Could possibly be cocci from the soil you had them on. The poster meant cedar wood. Not good for chickens.Any kind of pine wood shavings will work. if you use newspaper shred it. And yes straw will work.

It could be cocci. I have just treated my babies for that. Sometimes they will have bloody poo but not always. Cocci is in soil all soil. Chickens have to build an immunity to it. Some times they get an overload and get sick. If you dont treat they will die. Treat with Corid or Sulmet. There are natural treatments for it. Herbs and such but I dont know what kinds and how much. Maybe someone on here will have that info. You can also use corn cob bedding if you have that there. We use that at the feed store that I work at. I would say to treat for the cocci. If you have access to Corid it will say for cows but you can use for chickens. Use 5 ml in a gal of water. Change daily.
