Buff Dewlap Toulouse Thread

I've noticed your interest in genetics. As you know, every divison is a specialty. I got an A in that class, but I still have to carefully read about goose genetics, as I studied human getetics.

Did you know it was possible for one overy to produce one genotype, and the other to produce a different one, that would make your kids test to NOT be yours? Rare but true.

Your goose does sound interesting.

Hey Celtic, when and how often, do geese mult?

Oh, It is possible genetically to look like the only red head in your family from up to 5 generations ago, if you meet the right genetics in both parents. I suppose some great grandparent back when was a calico also. It makes me understand why ladies insisted on long sleeves, sun hats, and gloves. If I'd used those, maybe the changes wouldn't be so obvious. Neither of my parents or grandparents had it. All my folks remembered about their grandparents, is that they were old, and had freckles! (Like my mom and her mom with their red hair)

My Dads family english pasty skin, my moms lots of irish, scottish, and welsh. One is smooth and fair, the other is an intriguing map. :D I'd settle for either. I have giant reverse freckles.

Neat and useful graphs.
For us the key to breeding the Buffs is to integrate our Grey line to produce the Split ganders which we've achieved this year. Some will be paired back to Grey females and others to the Buff females so we can then produce some Buff ganders. Using line breeding we hope to produce Ganders of the same size and quality as our greys.

Here in the UK we're breeding for a very similar type tothose in North America but the following picture shows the key physical features of the type we'll be selecting for

We used to vacation for 3 weeks in Canada every summer, and now with highs like that, I'd kinda like to move there.    Last winter was pretty mild for us too, and the summer was over 100 for 13 days.
My friend visited from New Mexico two years ago. I was whining about the hot weather, and here she was - all refreshed and wearing long sleeves without breaking a sweat. It's all what we're used to :D

I did get used to the hot here after a while. It's the drastic changes that is such an issue for us. Our humidity does make it feel much hotter. I think our hottest day was over 100 with the humidex. We usually have humidity around 60-100% in the summer.

I avoid 10 - 3 becasue I have skin pigment issues, so I'm like a vampire, I only come out at night (unless I'm in my car or a building). Besides, July and August its like 110 outside. January and February, I'm likely to see anywhere from -15 up to a balmy 60, but usually its just 20s. Its those -15 w/40 mph winds that make it impossible to do anything but sit in front of the fireplace.

That kind of humidity makes me think of my old home state of Florida.

Here is a pic of Samantha after hatch last June. I was thinking about the buffs as babies, and then found this pic instead. (and it changes the giant pic in the Recent Images from this Thread, which I wanted to do.)
