Yay for someone eatting. and One being better
Here is lucky and baby girl today. It would appear than someone is nibbling on the food in the pan. I keep finding small amounts gone now, but don't know which one it is. Both of them still aren't walking or standing. I was gonna take them both out to a freshly cleaned large deep walmart tub to see if they want to swim a bit, and wash themselves up. I'll be right close, in clase swimming doesn't work for one or the other. I just popped some more oatmeal w/applesauce in with the girls, and a side of watermelon. When the human girls get home, I'll send them out with scissors to go cut some of the taller green grass on the South side of the barn, to temp them. My mom is bringing some kale out of her greenhouse with her (and a pot of it growing) for tempting snacks on thanksgiving. (Hopefully they are eating better by then).
They seem very content to just hang out and rest, so I'm letting them. I've also discovered that older ducks are just as messy as little ducks, given the opportunity.I keep adding dry straw, but this afternoon I'm moving them closer to the door, so I can clean all the straw out of sick bay, and let it dry for a day or two underneath. Don't want anyone hanging out being wet, and besides, they've got about a foot of straw under them now, since I add to the bedding daily.![]()
The other buff is out with the flock, and I can't tell which one it is now, so I guess its all good. One better, two to go!!!![]()
I gave Lucky and Baby girls both some time in the large walmart box (about 18" deep). Baby was not happy, and wanted out. I made her stay a few minutes. and tried to help her wash the dried boogies off her beak. Next, I sat her in a nice soft patch of grass in the last of the evening sunshine. She definitely is still having some breathing issues from the swelling. She can drink without completely chocking herself now, but its a chore for her. She does like to lay there right next to the water though. Lucky liked the water, and did use her legs a big. Not mega swimming at all, but she gently moved around, and ducked her head a few times. Neither is walking at all yet, or trying. They both drag themselves around by their wings.
When I brought them in (after moving stalls around for a new dry place with lots of new straw) and gave them water, I tried tempting them with whole romaine leaves, no dice. Grass, no dice. Lucky, however, was happily munching on the evenings hunk of watermelon when I left. Baby girl has a chunk in front of her, and I left the light on and the melon in front of her, but she's still not touching a bite. However, she is much cleaner.
