Buff duck newby

yep, the females a sweetheart. If the baby they just hatched is a drake and he isn't mean to everyone like his father then i'll know it's just my ducks personality and not the breed, but i had several buffs, he's the only drake, the other ducks sort of steer clear of him. Honestly, I thought about culling him but i can't bring myself to do it..i may re-home him as a last resort. My other thought was to put him in a pen for a month or so away from the other ducks so he won't be so comfortable when he goes back out there and maybe he won't be so big for his britches..i don't know...Duck Drama..lol

I have a pair of Buffs too. I got the last year so this spring was the first one, with Hans my Drake in full mating frenzy!! Oh MY WORD! For about 2 weeks, he was crazy, I used my dog to chase him off my hens. I mean he just would not leave them alone! (I have had drakes through spring before, never Buffs, and I just don't remember them being this aggressive with the hens) Then when I put a new hen in...... yup caaaaraazy! I am surprised she actually survived he looked like he would drown her every time. (she was a Pekin) But now, he has calmed down A LOT. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that he has 3 girls now and has settled in with them, or that Spring mating season is over. He is a really pretty drake, but I was ready to strangle him at many times!

wow, i'd have a hard time too but if he was killing my other birds i'd probably get over it lol My one drake is a pain, he's just overly everything, but he's never once tried to kill anything, if he did he'd be gone, i am actually considering replacing him anyways, i got a real nice blue baby from him so he may go in the end...

They do need quite a few females so that could have played a role, basic amounts 2-3 per BUT ideally the more the better, i have 9 ducks right now but one is only 8wks old lol and i have two sexed buffs coming in the next few weeks, plus(

) i do have a nesting duck right now, so if she drops me some ducks i may keep them anyways lol It's said 'scovies do best with 5 so... now they'll have a bit extra.
