Trying to produce Buff Laced chicks from a buff laced rooster, would you use a golden or silver sebright hen? Anyone around oklahoma city have any sebrights by any chance? I am thinkin gold laced hens would be my best choice, but definitely a guess...

yes, he is white laced buff coloring, I am lookin for a couple golden sebright hens...thanks for the info

You can still use Silver Laced, you just won't get usable males in the offspring.

. If someone that understands genetics could explain how it would work out, I would appreciate it...are you sayin the males from the silver hens wont work because they will be carrying the silver and the gold gene, versus just gold if you use golden laced? If that is the case, I thought you could still use a male from that cross, they would just throw golden AND silver laced pullets...

Yes.

It works like this -

Buff Laced x Gold Laced - Buff Laced male and female (however they only carry one dom white allele, so you must breed back to buff laced or to each other, and still, you'll get a percentage who aren't pure for buff lacing but look it)

Buff Laced x Silver Laced - Buff laced females, same rules apply as above, males are "golden" type - They will have gold and silver genes, and yes they'll produce both silver and gold, however you must consider the fact of there being one dom white allele carried here. Cross him back to a silver and get more silver laced hens (with 50% being pure white). Cross him back to a buff laced and get some buff laced, some partially white buff laced, and some pure whites.

thank you very much, now I just have to find some nice golden and/or silver sebright hens
